The school nutrition program seeks to provide tasty, nutritious and affordable school meals in a environment which encourages students to eat these foods. We believe that the school nutrition program makes a contribution towards meeting the students' nutrition needs and developing future eating habits. We are making efforts to reduce fat through menu planning, purchasing and recipe modification. 

Norman Park Elementary School uses a computerized system to count student meals and keep records of student payment. The system provides an accurate count of student meals without slowing service and has relieved teachers of this responsibility. As a parent there are several things you can do to be sure your child's account is handled properly:

1.  If you wish to apply for free or reduced meals, please return the application form as soon as possible. Food Stamp/AFDC case number or income figures and Social Security numbers are absolutely necessary. Be sure to sign the application. You should receive a notice from the school approving your child free or reduced lunches.

2.  Please use the envelopes supplied by the school to send money for meals. It would be helpful if you could say how much is for breakfast and how much is for lunch. A check is a much safer way of sending meal money to school.

3. Paying in advance, weekly or monthly, is the most convenient and saves time in the cafeteria. Separate checks for each child is also helpful.

4. Prices for meals are as followed:

Daily	$0.85 ($0.30 reduced)	$1.35 ($0.40 reduced)
Daily	$1.50 (Adults)	$2.85 (Adults)

Extra milk is $0.35 per carton. This cannot be charged but can be paid in advance.

5. There is a 5 day limit on charged meals. You must send the money to school if your child brings home a note indicating that the cost of meals has been charged. If your family's financial situation has changed you can be approved for free or reduced meals at any time during the school year providing that you complete an application form and return it to the school. We do not want to refuse a meal to any student so please keep your account current.

6.  Teachers and 4th and 5th grade students can now buy food a la carte.  Students may purchase extra items after they have purchased a full plate.  Teachers may choose the items they wish to purchase.  Prices are as follows:

Entree:  $1.00
Vegetable:  $0.50
Bread:  $0.50
Cinnamon Roll:  $1.00
